Belgian Cyber Authorities

Belgium's cyber response includes a national cybersecurity authority and specialised criminal investigators. Their responsibilities can intersect around an incident, but their mandates are distinct.

Scope

This guide is informational. The competent authority, reporting route and legal duties depend on the facts and the organisation's role. Confirm current requirements on the official sites.

01
Centre for Cybersecurity Belgium

CCB

The CCB is Belgium's national cybersecurity authority. It coordinates the national cybersecurity strategy and performs national functions for NIS2, incident reporting and CSIRT response. Its remit concerns resilience, coordination and the applicable regulatory framework. Organisations should check its official guidance for current obligations and reporting channels.

02
Federal Computer Crime Unit

FCCU

The FCCU is part of the Federal Judicial Police's central directorate for serious and organised crime. It investigates computer crime, including attacks on critical infrastructure, and supports specialised police units. Its criminal investigation mandate is different from the CCB's national cybersecurity and regulatory role.

03 / Coordination

Two public mandates. One coherent response.

A significant cyber incident may raise resilience and reporting questions as well as possible criminal conduct. The relevant organisation determines its duties and contacts the competent authority through the current official channels. Evidence preservation, facts and timelines should be handled with care.
